Greystones Swim School- Swimming Levels

Important :When enrolling into a level please make sure it is the correct level deemed suitable for your little swimmer. Do not enroll into a level not suitable as we will not be in the position to move any swimmer back down or up a level (especially into level1) unless there is space. We do not offer refunds for any new member booking into the wrong level and we do not take a waiting list for any level. LEVEL 1-LEARNER POOL (4yrs +)

  • Put Face in the water confidently
  • Be comfortable with water showered from overhead
  • Float on front unaided demonstrating kicks
  • Float on back demonstration kicks
    • flotation aid may be used
  • Introduction to arm technique
  • Safe entry into the shallow end of the pool
  • Able to follow teacher’s instructions
  • Exit the water Safely
  • We do not use armbands in this level

LEVEL 2 BEGINNERS -SHALLOW END

  • Push, Glide & Kick 5 metres with safe recovery
    • Horizontal position & face in the water
  • Push, Glide & Kick 5 metres on back aided with safe recovery
  • Move sideways 5 metres away from the wall,
    • feet may be on or off the floor.
  • Move from a flat floating position on the back
    • Return to standing
  • Safe entry into the deep end of the pool
  • Thread water for 5 seconds in the deep end

LEVEL 2 IMPROVERS -Shallow End (This is NOT a beginner swim level)

  • Swim 10 metres Front crawl unaided with safe recovery
    • Horizontal position & face in the water
    • Attempting To breathe to Side
  • Swim 10 metres back-Crawl unaided with safe recovery
  • Move sideways 10 metres away from the wall
  • Attempt Breaststroke leg kick (Aid may be used)
  • Pick up an item from the bottom of the pool (Surface Dive)
  • Safe entry into the deep end of the pool
  • Thread water for 10 seconds in the deep end
  • Exit the water safely.

LEVEL 3 -DEEP END

  • Swim 15 metres Front crawl unaided with safe recovery
    • Horizontal position & face in the water
    • Demonstrating correct breathing technique
  • Swim 15 metres back-crawl unaided with safe recovery
    • Alternating arm actions
  • Swim 15 metres Breaststroke using symmetrical leg kicks
  • Pick up an item from the bottom of the pool (Surface Dive)
  • Demonstrate a dive from the pool edge
  • Thread water in the deep end comfortably
  • Exit the water safely.

LEVEL 4-DEEP END

  • Swim 25 metres Front crawl with good technique
    • Horizontal position & face in the water
    • Demonstrating correct breathing technique
  • Swim 25 metres back-crawl with good technique
    • Alternating arm actions
  • Swim 25 metres Breaststroke
    • Symmetrical leg kicks & arm action
  • Pick up an item from the bottom of the pool
  • Demonstrate Butterfly Kicks
  • Demonstrate a dive from the pool edge
  • Thread water in the deep end comfortably

LEVEL 5-DEEP END LANES

  • Swim with Proficient technique without a break:
    • 50 metres Front-crawl
    • 50 metres Back-crawl
    • 50 metres Breaststroke
  • Swim 25 metres Butterfly
    • Symmetrical leg kicks & arm action
  • Demonstrate Tumble Turns
  • Demonstrate a dive from the pool edge
  • Demonstrate survival breaststroke & side stroke
  • Maintain a good fitness level during the swim session
