Bray What Level am I?

Level 1

  • Must be at least 4 years old
  • Usually children are in armbands but it is not compulsory
  • Never had lessons before
  • If the child has just turned 4 the week before lessons commence but are confident we would still suggest level 1 as following instructions must be learnt from the beginning
  • Depth of pool is 0.5m
  • Usually 8 children per class

Level 2

  • Must be able to put their face in water and keep it down while swimming a width of baby pool.
  • No armbands in this class
  • Average age 4-5yrs
  • Children must be confident
  • They will learn to swim on their front and back without any support
  • Depth is 0.9meters
  • Usually 8 children per class

Level 3

  • Children must be able to swim using their arms and legs on front/back for at least half a width of the main pool (6 metres)
  • Fully submerge to pick up an object
  • No armbands in this class
  • Average age 5-7yrs
  • Must be able to put their face in the water and keep it down while swimming
  • Be a height of 1 metre or more as the depth is 1 metre
  • They will be using boards and woggles as aids but will not rely on this equipment
  • Usually 10 children per class

Level 4

  • Children must be able to swim on front and back without support (i.e. board) 1 width across the pool without holding rope
  • Demonstrate breaststroke on the front using one item of equipment
  • No armbands in this class
  • Average age 6-8yrs
  • Must be able to attempt the correct breathing on front crawl
  • Be a height of 1.2 metre or more as the depth is 1.2 metre
  • Usually 10 children per class

Level 5

  • Class for kids who can swim without any support on front and back two widths of the pool (13m 1 way)(1.35m depth)
  • average age 7-9yrs
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Breast stroke without use of equipment
  • Usually 10 children per class

Level 6

  • Deep end class, children have to be able to tread water and swim Front Crawl, Back Crawl, and Breast Stroke with correct breathing
  • Attempt the butterfly moves
  • Diving to pick up objects from the deep end
  • Know some rescue skills
  • Usually 10 children per class

Level 7

  • Deep end class Swim Front Crawl, Back Crawl & Breast Stroke with good technique, attempt butterfly, confident in the deep end,
  • Able to tread water with hands in the air and signal for help
  • Can dive
  • Can tumble turn
  • Stamina is pushed in this level so there is a lot of swimming
  • Know the rescue skills and be able to attempt to save some one
  • Usually 10 children per class
